Re: Are companions' skills not supposed to increase

BTW, controlling your party members is awesome. You could seriously spike the game difficulty and have that be just fine. When you can control multiple characters, it multiplies your firepower several times over.

Re: Are companions' skills not supposed to increase

I assume you are using the mod that controls party members. The way it works, your party members are affected by your own Tags, Perks, Traits, etc... leading to them being grossly overpowered. Having your companions have Fast Shot is pretty insane, and with Bonus Rate of Fire on top, they are more p...

Re: Unobtainable Viable Weapons

You have to take damage resistance into account. Assault Rifle uses 5mm ammo, which has a +35% DR modifier, while the SMG uses 10mm which has a 25% modifier. So the 192 from Assault rifle gets reduced by 35% (rounds down to 124), while the 170 from SMG gets reduced by 25% (rounds down to 127). For a...

Re: Unobtainable Viable Weapons

No, it definitely does not. It if did, it would be superior to other burst weapons of the same type (Assault Rifle), but as is, it is almost the same. The armor penetration is countered by only firing 5 bullets per burst (vs 8 from Assault Rifle, or 10 from SMG). I was disappointed, because i though...

Re: Unobtainable Viable Weapons

Living Anatomy adds 5 damage at the end of the attack, which bypasses all DR. If you are bursting, you won't see that much of a difference, since you are still only getting 5 damage to it. It works best with fast firing single-shot weapons.

Re: General Character Guide

A trick i recall from Fallout 2, is to set a party member who has a burst weapon to "Charge" regarding distance. This causes them to run up right to the enemy before attacking, which, with a burst weapon, works well (Keri + Kriss = LOL). The only catch is that keri has low AP, so without Leader, she...

Re: General Character Guide

Fair point about CHarisma, one could make a character with 10 CH and Kama Sutra MAster or something, just for kicks. But Speech generally gets you there. And saving a few caps is meaningless. You were pretty generous regarding skills. I didn't cover most of them, because they aren't worth the time. ...

Re: Unobtainable Viable Weapons

Mega Power Fist (that Savior has) also has penetrate.

It is not really something to worry about. The weapon progression is relatively short anyways, unless you want to mess around with exotic stuff.

Re: Unobtainable Viable Weapons

To test for penetrate, pick a weapon, and fire at something like Power Armor. See if the damage you deal is noticeably higher than it should be. Write down the various resistances of the Power Armor to able able to figure out how much damage you should be doing. I haven't seen any other weapon that ...

Re: Unobtainable Viable Weapons

There are a few of them. Weapon Accurate - Grants +20% accuracy to the weapon. Shotguns of all kinds belong here, as do Gauss weapons and the 14mm pistol (among a few others). Knockback - Knocks the target back (1 hex for 5 damage dealt) - The hammers have this, along with Louisville Slugger. I woul...

Re: Unobtainable Viable Weapons

Penetrate ignores 80% of the Damage Threshold of the armor. So, if you fire against Combat armor, only 1 DT will be applied, instead of 5. Against Power Armor, which has 12 DT, this is huge. Annihilator is pretty good, with 30 average damage. CAWS isn't that useful, for the same reason Combat Shotgu...

Re: Unobtainable Viable Weapons

THe .223 Pistol is definitely better, due to Penetrate. It has less range, but that's not a big deal. It will hit harder 100% of the time.

Re: PEW PEW, The lack of.

For Small Guns, the Kriss Submachinegun is the best. Ignores most armor (thanks to the Penetrate Perk), and has good burst power. For Big Guns, Gatling Destroyer kills entire groups of people (if they are not too well armored). Heavy Grenade Launcher is devastating against clusters of enemies. For E...

General Character Guide

Since I don't see anything like this, I guess I will go ahead and start one, for anyone who is less familiar with the mod (assuming all you guys didn't already beat the game like 10 times :) ) Keep in mind that there is no "best" build. This is meant more as a general guideline than anything. Here i...

Re: Unobtainable Viable Weapons

Small Guns is perfectly viable, without the need for anything else. Kriss Sub is all you really need. Between the Penetrate perk (yes, it has that), and high armor piercing, it can kill most foes in a single burst. It is pretty much the best Small Gun in the game, both in the burst and single-shot d...
