I tried that too, got the same result. You won't get there, unless you join them or kill them all.

You need to kill only Hunter next to the elevator. Then you'll get in. He starts dialog with you when you step into the elevator. The problems is that dialog can't be started during the combat so the game crashes. Thanks for the report.
